School Size

 

Written in 2007, the report presents a study of ‘literature exploring the impact of school size on educational quality and community benefits.’ Commissioned by a parent advisory council in British Columbia, Canada, the study summarizes the benefits of small schools. 

     Does School Size Matter? – Nguyen, Schmidt & Murray 2007

This report by Lorna Jimerson in 2006, is named for the main characters in JJR Tolkien’s books.  Highlighting irrational and illogical arguments to eliminate small and go big in the face of documented advantages, especially among urban educators where a “smaller is better” model is being used, Jimerson outlines the benefits of “smallness” in educating kids.
